More safety through surface hygiene

More safety through surface hygiene

Surface hygiene

In many areas of the manufacturing industry (e.g. pharmaceuticals, medical devices, etc.), as well as in healthcare facilities, very expensive equipment is used with a variety of different materials (such as plastics, metals, textiles and coated surfaces). To meet hygienic requirements, they must be cleaned and disinfected frequently. In addition to the general criteria of material compatibility, however, investigations must also be carried out into the basic microbial load, cleaning effect and residue analysis.

Our experts support you with a wide range of services in the field of “Cleaning & Disinfection”. Especially in health care facilities – from hospitals to outpatient clinics to nursing homes – cleaning and disinfection of surfaces must be checked with regard to interactions, resistance and effectiveness.

At OFI, we conduct tests for material compatibility with disinfectants and test the anti-microbial efficacy of surfaces and products. We offer contract research, research within the framework of funded national and international projects as well as routine analysis. To this end, we advise on the selection and use of approved biocides and assist you with the approval of your anti-microbial products. Our expertise ensures safety and health protection for patients and users.

Our services

  • Assistance in the selection of antimicrobially active substances and support in the approval of finished surfaces (ECHA database, contact ministries, etc.)
  • Testing of antimicrobial surfaces for biocidal (bactericidal, fungicidal and sporicidal) efficacy (e.g. ÖNORM EN ISO 846, ÖNORM EN ISO 20743, JIS Z 2801, ÖNORM EN ISO 22196, ASTM)
  • Verification of the effectiveness of disinfectants and their interaction with wipes (4 field test, microbiological tests, TOC, HPLC, EN 16615 and ASTM)
  • Advice on the correct use of detergents and disinfectants, together with a correct choice of materials.
  • Determination of chemical resistance, especially to cleaning agents and disinfectants for surface disinfection, under accelerated aging for plastics, textiles and metals (e.g. ÖNORM EN ISO 2812-3)
  • Investigation of the cleaning effect: with and without impurities (TOC, microbiological methods)
  • Residue analysis and cleaning validations (GC-FID/MS, HPLC-UV/VIS-MS, TOC, microbiological methods, W 319, endotoxins)
  • Interaction of cleaning agents with textiles (4-field test)
